Counselling Process

These can be made directly or indirectly by telephone, letter, email or self. Our service is available to adult survivors (16+) of childhood sexual abuse and rape in East and North Ayrshire. If you feel your life has been affected by childhood sexual abuse and/or rape, you can contact us for support.

For all new referrals, your first appointment with Break the Silence will be an Information Session. This is for you to find out more about what Break the Silence can offer you. You do not need to give any further details at this appointment. An Information Booklet will be provided.

The next appointment is an Assessment Session – this will allow you and the Counsellor to discuss the best way forward and which type of counselling may be most helpful in your circumstances. This helps you choose which service best suits you.

One-to-One Support
We offer a safe, confidential, environment for you to explore loss, grief, anger and the emotional impact that childhood sexual abuse/rape has had on your life.

Outreach facilities are available in some areas of East Ayrshire (e.g. Cumnock, Dalmellington, etc) and North Ayrshire (Ardrossan, Irvine, etc).

Break the Silence welcomes people of all genders. We understand that often it is very difficult for people to come forward but help is available for the issues that often affect them, for example – anger, shame, sexual orientation, etc.

Partners/Family Members
Rape and childhood sexual abuse issues can affect family members as well as the victim. Finding out that a family member has experienced sexual abuse can have a devastating effect on non-abusing members of the family who may experience overwhelming feelings of distress, anger and guilt. We offer to see any family member or partner over 16 years of age who feels they need to speak to someone. These sessions are free and are limited to 4 appointments.
